The Plaza Executive Health Club Member of the Month for August is Patrick Macken! Awesome job, Patrick!
Q: Where are you from? A: I was born and raised outside Kalamazoo, MI, then lived in New Orleans for 8 years before moving to Atlanta.
Q: How long have you been doing your job?
A: I am a partner at Troutman Sanders LLP. I have been practicing law for 9 years. Before that I worked as an EMT and a bartender in New Orleans while going to school.
Q: What is your major accomplishment? A: I am proud of completing my first marathon in Janurary 2008.
Q: What do you like most about the Plaza Health Club? A: The friendly environment.
Q: How long have you been exercising and what was your daily routine prior to beginning an exercise regimen?
A: After law school, I didn't start excersising again until 2003. My routine consisted of lots of tv and eating.
Q: What were your eating habits like?
A: I was more concerned with how things tasted than whether or not they were good for me.
Q: What are your current exercise routine and eating habits? A: Now I try and workout 6 days a week, running 3-4 for of those days. I try and workout in the mornings so I don’t miss it if something else comes up. While I am more aware of what I eat, I am still not the healthiest eater in the world. I like red meat too much
Q: How long has it been since you started working out at the Plaza and what accomplishment(s) have you achieved?
A: Started in the Spring of 2004. Probably my biggest accomplishment has been my consistency.
Q: What made you change your lifestyle and follow a consistent workout schedule? A: Before my oldest daugther was born, I decided I wanted to lose weight and live healthier to set a good example. I ended up losing 30 pounds and that has helped me stay motivated to stick with it too.
Q: Favorite restaurant(s)? A: My all time favorite is Del Monicos in New Orleans. In Atlanta, I would probably have to say Rathbuns
Q: Favorite book(s)? A: Nothing in particular. I read a lot, but it is mostly mystery/suspense novels as opposed to any great literary works
Q: What is your favorite thing to do in Atlanta?
A: Go hiking with the family in the mountains.
Q: Favorite movie/ actor /actress? A: Animal House. Don’t really have a favorite actor/actress.
Q: Favorite vacation spot?
A: Ireland
Q: If I could I would?
A: Visit all seven of the modern and ancient wonders of the world.
