The Plaza Executive Health Club Member of the Month for May is Joanna Campbell! Great Job Joanna!
Q: Where are you from?
A: Originally from Potomac, Maryland, but have lived in Atlanta for 23 years.
Q: How long have you been doing your job?
A: GDOT Associate Transportation Counsel. Been practicing law for almost 20 years, the past 4 at GDOT.
Q: What is your major accomplishment?
A: Raising two fantastic kids into fabulous high schoolers.
Q: What do you like most about the Plaza Health Club?
A: Everyone is so wonderful and encouraging, they keep me motivated and going, especially on days when I really don’t want to work out.
Q: How long have you been exercising and what was your daily routine prior to beginning an exercise regimen?
A: I started exercising seriously last December. Before that I was a busy mom, and pretty much a couch potato. The only regular exercise I got was up and down the stairs in my house and walking from the parking deck to my office
Q: What were your eating habits like?
A: Awful. I have never eaten much fast food, but definitely too much junk food and not enough nutrition.
Q: What are your current exercise routine and eating habits?
A: Currently I work out at the Plaza 3-5 days a week for about an hour and a half, combination of cardio and easy weights. I try to fit in a class when I can, but the scheduling can be tough so I don’t get to do them much.
My eating habits are definitely improving. Although I am still working on getting better I make a point of eating less meat and cheese, getting veggies into at least two meals a day, and fruit and nuts have become my favorite snacks.
Q: How long has it been since you started working out at the Plaza and what accomplishment(s) have you achieved?
A: Started working out at the Plaza in December 08. Since then I have lost three dress sizes and a few pounds. When I started I was really out of shape and could only do about 5 minutes of cardio without getting too tired, now I can go for 40 without any problem.
Q: What made you change your lifestyle and follow a consistent workout schedule?
A: My kids do competitive sports. That made me realize I had kind of lost control of what I was doing to my body and needed to start fixing it right away or I was going to be in big trouble. Seeing how much of a difference even just a little bit of regular exercise made got me motivated to keep going, and now that I have seen and felt some real changes, it’s not hard to make myself keep on and improve even more.
Q: Favorite restaurant(s)?
A: Melton’s App and Tap and Saba
Q: What is your favorite thing to do?
A: Reading, camping, and participating in historical recreation and living history events.
Q: Favorite movie/ actor /actress?
A: Hugh Jackman
Q: Favorite book?
A: I love the Amelia Peabody mysteries by Elizabeth Peters and the Pern books by Anne McCaffrey
Q: If I could, I would...
A: Fit more hours in the day to get everything done. There are so many places to go and things to do, there just isn’t enough time.
